Sometimes letting go is the hardest thing to do. But as a parent I imagine there are some things that you just have to let go of and let things play out how they will. No matter how much you plan, how much you try, how much you hope things just have a way of going however they will. Especially when it comes to a two year old.
I had dual duty when I met up with the Schaeffer family recently at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg. With Morgan turning two, we tried to celebrate her birthday with a portrait session. But that’s not really what she wanted to do. We tried walking. We tried sitting. We tried bubbles. Whatever we tried, Morgan wasn’t interested. Things like that happen when you miss your nap. But the good news is that it’s hard to tell any of that went on when you look at these images!
In between trying to calm Morgan down, I set to work on the other part of my mission that day – to get some great maternity portraits of mom-to-be Brandie. She’s due with her second child at the beginning of August, so she wanted to remember this time in their family’s journey. I think she’s beautiful and knows how to rock a photo! Check out some of the highlights from our afternoon together.

Thank you for visiting the blog today. Let me know you were here by leaving a comment about any of the following:
- What is your favorite image from the Schaeffer’s portrait session?
- Did you see the little birthday hat clip Morgan had in her hair? Awesome, right? It’s from Etsy. I don’t spend enough time there, so what am I missing that I need to check out there?
P.S. – Coming next is a look at the Ulmer family’s new baby and portrait session!
Oh my these are amazing! I love the second picture of Morgan in her birthday outfit. That is an amazing smile and her eyes are sparkling! I love the birthday outfit from Etsy…and I spend WAY too much time there! You could maybe find some great handmade props/blankets for newborn sessions.
You are so good!
